“Man is the only kind of varmint that sets his own trap, baits it, then steps in it.”

–John Steinbeck

The world of 2012 is vastly different from that of 1912. In only 100 years, we have survived two world wars, developed nuclear weapons and put men on the moon. The international community is more interconnected today than it has ever been before. This is especially present when one enters the supermarket. Strawberries can be found in the dead of winter. Pomegranates can be purchased in July.

There is no question whether our eating habits have changed over last 100 years. However, there is much debate over the healthiness of this change. As part of a college English class, I will maintain this blog both as a channel for discussing all aspects of food production and as an avenue for my personal enlightenment.
